The small town of Mechelen, about 30min outside Brussels, was one of our first stops in Belgium. It has a lot of folklore about a small doll that was tossed up and down on a sheet… You can see this crazy guy in lots of places around town!
Mechelen also has a beautiful canal boardwalk which was a real treat getting around town.
Dating back to 1369, Het Anker is one of Belgium’s oldest breweries. Beers here were originally brewed by beguines, holy women living in a small religious community. Today, the brewery’s restaurant is known for delicious Gouden Carolus beer and local chicken, called cuckoo or malines.
The weather was a bit dreary during our trip, but there were bright, beautiful flower boxes in nearly every window.

The first, and probably most terrifying, Golem we saw in Prague - Even though I was a bit unnerved, the Golem is a protector and, generally, a force for good.
Memorial to two students Jan Palach and Jan Zajic, who protested the Soviet Union’s invasion of Czechoslovakia by committing suicide by self-immolation - You can’t see the memorial itself because it’s covered with flowers and candles.

Perogies!! This was the first place where we tried sweet perogies - berries and cheese - and we loved them!
A scale replica of the city, it’s not only a lovely map, but it’s also geared to help people with visual impairments
These were the best perogies of the trip! We tried their traditional potato and onion and also their chicken liver; both were amazing!
We took a tour with an amazing guide of Września, the small town where Julien’s family had lived in Poland. At the time they lived there, it was part of Germany and called Wreschen. The city created a memorial where the Wreschen synagogue had been before Nazi takeover of the area.

Under communism, churches were not maintained in Croatia. Now, many houses of worship are undertaking major repairs.
Tunnels dug during WWII were never filled in, and today they’re used as walking shortcuts through the city.

Grocery cart confusion... took us a while (and staring at several other patrons) to figure out that you have to insert a coin into the cart to use it in the store
Citrus trees, mostly oranges, line the streets of El Palo. They're too bitter to eat, but they're very pretty!
