summer in berlin
Berlin is a city that changes dramatically between seasons. Winter is cold and grey. The days are painfully short, and no one feels like doing much. Ask any Berliner and they’ll tell you how tough the winters can be. Some of the coldest, darkest days tested our limits, but we made it through. And now we’re starting to experience another side of the city: summertime!
We, like so many other Berliners, are spending time outside and enjoying the reappeared sunshine. The days are longer, plants are flowering, and everything is green. The new season has brought migratory birds back to Berlin. Many of them have made their homes at the Engelbecken pond next to our apartment. We are especially in love with the family of swans nesting there. The six little hatchlings are unbelievably adorable. They follow diligently behind their parents snapping up bits of seeds and grass that locals feed them. It is a special time here that we are going to enjoy as much as possible.
Berlín es una ciudad que cambia drásticamente entre las estaciones. El invierno es muy gris y hace mucho frío, los días son dolorosamente cortos, y nadie tiene ganas de hacer nada. Puedes preguntar a cualquier persona y va a decirte lo duros que los inviernos pueden ser. Algunos de los días más fríos y oscuros pusieron a prueba nuestros límites. Pero al final, lo logramos. Y ahora empezamos a ver otro aspecto de la ciudad ¡el del verano!
Nosotros, como la mayoría de los demás Berlineses, pasamos tiempo afuera disfrutando del reaparecido sol. Los días son más largos, las plantas están en flor, y todo está verde. Esta estación nueva ha traído aves migratorias de vuelta a Berlín, muchos de ellos han construido hogares en el estanque Engelbecken a lado de nuestro piso. Estamos enamorados de la familia de cisnes que están anidando allí, las seis crías son increíblemente adorables. Siguen siempre a sus padres comiendo semillas y césped que los vecinos les dan para comer. Es un tiempo muy especial aquí y vamos a disfrutarlo lo más posible.
